ACTIVITIES TO DO

PENINSULA OF SAMANA
The Samaná Peninsula is located in the north of Punta Cana. They are more than 300 km by road on a trip that can be shortened by flying on a plane or arriving by sea. The reward is worth it. The Samaná Peninsula is one of the most beautiful places in the Dominican Republic. A vast expanse of jungle awaits you, paradisiacal beaches, islets, waterfalls, lagoons, very diverse flora and fauna. The best beaches are Frontón, Rincón, Madama, Las Flechas and Bonita. Do not miss the Cayo Levantado islet or the El Limón waterfall.
If you want action in Punta Cana, take advantage and enjoy the activities you can do in the area. You can go buggy through the jungle, quad or ride a horse on the beaches, or zipline over the jungle of the Caribbean. In the surroundings of the beach you can also choose to do parasailing, fly with a parachute hooked to a speedboat or take surf and windsurf courses. If you have a good budget, you can always take a ride on a small plane or helicopter and admire the beauty of Punta Cana from above.

Santo Domingo is 3 hours by car or 4 by bus from Punta Cana and if you like the history, it should be on your list of places to visit. All the heritage appeal of Santo Domingo is in its Colonial Zone, here you will find the “first” of everything. The first house where Cristobal Colon lived, the first cathedral and the first hospital built by the Spaniards and many other things.
NATIONAL PARK LOS HAITISES
One of the most beautiful excursions in Punta Cana is the visit to the National Park of Los Haitises, located in the Samaná Bay. You will find in its most particular features the so-called “mogotes”. The mogotes are small elevations of 30- or 40-meters high that have been formed by the karstic nature of the ground in the area and the action of rain and wind. Most of the excursions include an exploration of its dense mangroves by boat and a visit to the ancient caves inhabited by the Taínos, where you still find paintings made by them. Some of the most beautiful caves are San Gabriel, La Reyna, La Línea and La Arena. Among its fauna you will find pelicans, gannets, owls, parrots, manatees, bats and various reptiles, highlighting the boas and sea turtles.
INDIGENOUS EYES ECOLOGICAL RESERVE
This reserve is one of the best kept secrets among the things to do in Punta Cana. It is a natural park formed by more than 600 hectares of tropical forests and twelve freshwater lagoons. The name of the park comes from those lagoons, since for the aborigines they were the eyes of the jungle. You can enter the jungle following the marked trails, which will lead you to springs, mangroves and, ultimately, pure nature. Bathe in the lagoons, horseback riding on the beaches are some of the things you can do in the Indigenous Eyes Ecological Reserve.
NIGHT LIFE PUNTA CANA
During the day, the beaches of Punta Cana are usually the protagonists. However, for many travelers, it is only the preamble of what the Dominican night offers. The real experts tan and take the first cocktails in the sun, but at nightfall they head for bars and discos. Some of the most famous are Coco Bongo, Oro, Mangú and Imagine.
DIVING WITH BOMBONE
The Dominican Republic waters are perfect for diving. Coral zones, big underwater caves and wrecks, some natural and others that have been deliberately placed throughout all corners of the world. Some of the best dive sites in Punta Cana are: La Cueva, a deep dive that takes you through a beautiful caves circuit between some sharks (harmless!) and stingrays. Also, the Monica boat: this was sunken off the Punta Cana coast of 90 years ago because of a storm, the wooden hull ship has inside material for railways, machinery used for the exploitation of sugar plantations and many fish of all kinds.
