The Dominican, Wally Heinsen added a new award to his historic chain of successes conquering last Saturday the rotating cup of the twenty-ninth international Blue Marlin fishing tournament organized by the Santo Domingo Yacht Club, under the direction of Jharold Maizo.

The event was inaugurated last Thursday and there were fourteen vessels, thirteen teams and some sixty fishermen representing the United States, Puerto Rico, Venezuela and the host  country, Dominican Republic.

Heinsen took the command from day one and finished with three blue billfish released to total 300 points. He sailed in Moonstruck with Raúl Rizek and Wadi Hasbún, taking 1st place in the Top Boats category. The second individual place corresponded to Domingo Viyella, in the Grace boat, and the third position went to Jesús Medina in Liquid. Both anglers culminated with 100 points.

The second place for boats went to Liquid and the third place corresponded to Grace. Boat crews received cash prizes, while anglers, in addition to trophies, took products from sponsoring companies.

During the closing ceremony, the outgoing commodore José Luis Núñez presented the new commodore Juan Lehoux Amell who will be sworn in the next few days. Lehoux took the floor to express his satisfaction at the commitment made. Subsequently he delivered, together with Núñez and director Maizo, trophies and awards to individual anglers

Other awards

In the team category “Los Terribles”, composed of Carlos Martí Besonias (MPG), Miguel Barletta (Ambar) and Wally Heinsen (Moonstruck), dominated with 300 points. Then came “The Directors” (Domingo Viyella, Miguel Pimentel Tavares and Jharold Maizo), with 200 points and “Los Vagabundos” (Piorito Rodríguez, Jesús Medina and Claudio Espinal), with 100 points.

Carolina Mederos awarded Diego Medina as the most outstanding junior angler. In the same way, José Enrique Núñez awarded Domingo Viyella, Diego Medina, Jharold Maizo and Wally Heinsen for the first and last billfish of each day. Luis Guerrero and Danny Medina, also members of the fishing committee, were good at awarding crews and boats, respectively. The outgoing commodore José Luis Núñez delivered the best boats.

Finally, Commodore Juan Lehoux and José Luis Núñez delivered a plaque and a personalized fishing rod to Director Maizo for his dedication to the assemblage of the tournament. The musical group Decibeles animated the activity in the middle of a gala dinner.
